Acting & Movement
Unit 1: Acting & Ensemble Study
This unit serves as in introduction to the process of working with text as an ensemble of actor musicians. Through a series of classes students will be introduced to the process of applying these ideas in preparation for rehearsal and performance. Work expands to look at the work of writers and practitioners whose work is particularly suited for Actor/Musician performance which can include (but is not limited to Brecht, Grotowski, Boal, Kushner et al.
Unit Two: Dance & Movement Classes/Workshop
This unit serves as development of students dance technique, with study of dance and other movement based practice integrated into the module. Students will move beyond the acquisition of core technique and the integration of dance and movement to the work of the Actor/Musician to the development of these styles and their application in a performance context.
Unit Three: Acting & Text
Considers the approach actors use to create character and deliver truthful performances in relation to modern text. Working within the methodology of Stanislavski students will work on scenes and character study taken from 20th and 21st Century text in English.
Module aims
Develop further awareness and understanding of how an Actor/Musician communicates with an audience and functions as part of a large ensemble tasked with delivering music, text and narrative. The work aims to consolidate the work undertaken in Acting 1 and progress this in terms of rehearsal room application, integration and extend performance skills in praxis and deepen an understanding of text and its relation to character development. Within dance and movement work carries on in extending core technique and a facility for dance to support the ensemble study and integrate into the work and personal rehearsal practice.
