This module is intended to further develop the use and application of computing in the professional media industry. Developing the application of switchers, routers and IT systems and applying video over IP and ethernet in an asynchronous environment.
Introduce the use of switches and routers in data communications
Apply ethernet and internet protocol to video distribution
Understand the effect of IT systems on media distribution

Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to continue the development of the student’s application of computing to the media industry.
The learning and teaching methods include:
One two hour lecture (weeks1-12)
Six two hour computing practical sessions every other week.
Five two hour seminars every other week
The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate computing protocols as applied to video over IP and their understanding of data communications for the media industry. Team work and critical thinking are assessed in small groups with one-to-one guidance from staff.
Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:
Coursework 1 – Group project for media connectivity using routers and switches 20%
Coursework 2 - Class test (covering learning outcomes 1-4), 30%
Coursework 3 - Individual computer systems project for video in an asynchronous environment, 50%
There are no formal formative assessment components for this module, but formative feedback will be given to individual students in tutorials during lab sessions.
Formative assessment is provided through coursework feedback and continuous interaction during lab sessions.
Students receive written feedback on their coursework and verbal feedback on their practical work throughout the module.
