Risk management is a central part of the management of events, particularly in the delivery
of event management operations and crowd management services. Such risks exist within
both the macro and micro environments and competitive markets however, other aspects
of events are also prone to risk which can range from the event concept per se to the
marketing of events and the securing of resources and legal permits.

The new assessment structure will be:

The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate both the theoretical, analytical and practical skills they have developed in the module. Thus, the summative assessments for this module will consist of:
Course Work One: Provide analysis of the range of risks posed to the staging of a major or hallmark event from within the macro, competitive and micro environments.
Course Work Two: Provide an in-depth evaluation of the legal duties relevant to the management of risks within the UK events sector and the ways in which event organisers need to comply with such legal duties.
Course Work Three: Provide a risk assessment in an industry recognised format for a small to medium sized event.
Formative assessment and feedback
Will be provided to students through a range of approaches, including question and answer sessions in class, group work and peer to peer learning and using SurreyLearn and within feedback to class presentations.

Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to:
Provide a framework of contemporary knowledge and theories supported by examples from industry. Current issues, debates and case studies will be introduced and key issues highlighted so that the students are able to apply critical thinking to the literature and case studies.
The learning and teaching methods include:
A series of lectures and seminars, appropriate case studies and guest lectures. The syllabus presented in the module documents will be covered using a variety of teaching and learning methods. Methods used may include academic lectures, lectures by industry guests, seminars and group work, peer to peer learning and academic-supported self-study and directed reading. Students should be prepared for assessment on topics from across the syllabus - irrespective of the mode of delivery e.g. whether the topic was covered by a formal 4 lecture, seminar, group work, peer to peer learning, self-directed study tasks and directed reading, etc.
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
