Module code: PRO2022
A weighted aggregate mark of 40% is required to pass the module.
PRO2022 and PRO2023 represent consecutive modules designed to allow students to advance the development of skills and knowledge in a practical context within their chosen pathway and in one non-pathway role, consolidating learning and discovery undertaken in their initial Foundation Role 1.
Each student will elect to undertake PRO2022 as either a pathway or non-pathway role and so determine the pathway elective of PRO2023 (i.e. pathway or non-pathway)
In taking an intermediate level support role where there are clear responsibilities and tasks required to successfully contribute to the delivery of a public production, students will progress their confidence and autonomy in dealing with the realisation of complex technical and artistic challenges.
Working within their peer group, freelance and in-house production teams, students will be able to apply and evidence basic skill acquisition in the core domains of pre-production, production and post-production.

Prerequisites / Co-requisites
All prior level 4 and 5 modules.
Indicative content includes:
A support role in any of the core production departments (Lighting, Sound, Stage Management, Scenic Design or Design Realisation)
Students will work within a small team under the supervision of a senior member of that department, and (with TTA supervision) contribute to the preparation, research and realisation of all or any components making up the design and technical elements required for the performance.
Students may work variously with freelance/professional teams, second and third year students or in-house technicians on a range of GSA presentations.

(Resit Only) Reflective Essay
In keeping with the Programme’s Assessment strategy, the practical assessment and reflective portfolio are designed to develop the students’ knowledge and understanding of the working practices of theatre production and enhance their own self-reflection and personal development.
The weekly group tutorials present opportunities for reflection and formative feedback.
- Address the students' strengths and weaknesses identified in prior Foundation Show Role/s, specifically in areas relating to engagement, preparation and autonomy.
- Advance organisation and preparation in the application of skills learnt in previous modules in one of the following production departments: Lighting, Sound, Stage Management, Scenic Design (including Construction, Prop Making and Paint).
- Develop students' familiarity and confidence in recognising technical components in their preparation, rigging and operation.
- Advance students' understanding of the management of a production through practical contribution and application of their role and responsibilities.
- Provide students with an opportunity to confidently recognise and explore core managerial, technical and artistic components in the selection and application of tools, processes and instruction.
- Develop an appreciation of the collaboration and synergy required to realise production design across core creative responses.

Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to:
Enable the student to demonstrate practical application of skills at an introductory level and promote contribution and collaboration (both creative and technical) as part of a team dynamic.
Allow students to assume a position of responsibility requiring management of personal and physical resources, communication and adherence to deadlines.
Prompt further independent study and research within their chosen subject pathway.
Enable students to explore working processes and practices of industry practitioners and record new learning and exploration for future reference.
This module facilitates key areas of the Programme Learning and Teaching strategy specifically those defining Tutor-led (including the participation of professional practitioners) and self-directed methods of learning encouraging and reflecting increasing independence while encouraging positive attitudes towards lifelong learning.
The learning and teaching methods include:
Attendance and contribution to production meetings and ad hoc briefings.
Specialist demonstration and instruction (rigging at height, electrical Health & Safety, etc.).
Competency exercises in basic theory and practice of production.
Workshops and ad hoc sessions with visiting creative/production professionals.
Compilation of Production Notebook as learning and reference tool.
Weekly Tutorial (group and/or individual).
Adherence to published production schedules.
Interpretation and subsequent preparation relating to external technical specifications and information.
Hours of activity in each area will be subject to the prevailing demands of the production across each core domain (pre-production, production, post-production).
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
