This module is designed for students with current leadership roles in order to facilitate their development as future strategic leaders. The module invites students to critically review their assumptions about leadership within healthcare and to reflect on their own role in strategic leadership. This will be achieved through exploring and analysing key leadership issues in health and social care practice, with the emphasis on challenging and debating contemporary theory and practice.

The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate
Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:
A critical reflection on a leadership issue within the student’s own area of practice.
The assessment will be 3,000 words in length.
Students will present a book review of contemporary thought with application to the area of healthcare leadership. This will form the basis for their summative assessment.
Additionally students will be supported with a peer review/ clinic style discussion in preparation for the assignment.

Facilitate students to reflect on the current healthcare agenda, critically analysing and applying contemporary theory to the challenges facing the delivery of modern healthcare practice.
The learning and teaching methods include:
Self directed learning
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
