When it is not possible to re-assess in the same format as the original assessment, i.e. group presentation, an alternative individual essay (max. 1500 words) will be applied.
The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of innovation in air transport through writing, visuals and oral presentations skills.
Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:
- A group project comprised of making a powerpoint presentation, with assigned time for presentation and Q&A , is worth 40% of the module mark. This piece of assessment allows students to use visuals and oral presentation skills to communicate their understanding of innovation in the air transport industry at the mid-point of the semester.
- The second 60% is based on a 2000-word individual assignment that will allow students to demonstrate their understanding of innovation in the air transport industry through writing.
Formative assessment and feedback
Feedback will be given verbally in each session through discussion of key topics and questions. Written feedback will be given on the group presentation and the assignment through SurreyLearn.

Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to:
- Develop students’ ability to understand and engage with innovation in the context of air transport studies.
The learning and teaching methods include:
- Lectures to illustrate theories and approaches.
- Seminars to facilitate student discussions
- These will be delivered as a 2-hour lecture and 1 hour seminar, on a weekly basis x 11 weeks
- Lecture notes will be made available in advance of lectures via SurreyLearn.
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
