The Small Scale Production project builds on the work of Level 5 in the Black Box production.
Production is based in a studio or other small scale setting, preparing for the Advance Practice module which follows later at Level 6.

Prerequisites / Co-requisites
Successful completion of Level 5 BA (Hons) Acting. A good command of spoken and written English. If the student's first language is not English, and s/he has not been taught in English or studies to A Level standard in the UK, s/he will need to demonstrate a minimum level of competence.

- Rehearsal and performance of a small scale production.
- Rehearsal and performance of a larger scale production.

The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate:

- Performance skills commensurate with Level 6
- Capacity to work effectively within a professional company
Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:
- Process 30%
- Performance 70%
The final mark for this element of the module will be assessed via a continuous appraisal of progress and development throughout the process.
Formative assessment and feedback
Formative individual verbal feedback is provided by the tutor after each exercise and summative formal written feedback with a mark at the end of the module. Students are expected to take notes and reflect upon their observations and progress.
Feedback will be returned in accordance with University policy, provisionally by the dates indicated by the Module Leader. It will be returned electronically via SurreyLearn.

Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to:
- Develop the skills learnt in Levels 4 and 5 in full rehearsal and performance situations.
The learning and teaching methods include:
- Tutor or visiting professional led sessions.
- Practical sessions.
- Group research.
- Individual research.
- Independent study.
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
