INTEGRATIVE APPLIED PROJECT - 2020/1
Module code: MANM363
Module Overview
This is a capstone project, which enables students to demonstrate their ability to bring the knowledge and skills acquired during the entire programme to practice in a holistic way. The project can take two forms:
- A business plan – students may want to start their own business and this project can be the first step on that journey. The business plan will have to be actionable and will be judged on how compelling it makes the case for the entrepreneur or the venture capitalist.;
- A consultancy report – students may prefer to work on live business problems to find solutions. A consultancy will have to be actionable by the client and will be judged on the added value that the customer receives from the consultancy. The client can be corporate, public or third sector;
- Traditional Dissertation – Focusing on a wider issue practical or theoretical issue in a specific industry and investigating the research problem rooted in theoretical frameworks and concepts.

The University’s virtual learning environment (SurreyLearn) will be used to support student learning by providing them with, alongside teaching materials, formative materials and additional resources and links to useful websites. The teaching and learning strategy for the project component is designed to allow the students to take responsibility for their own learning and progress, supported by individual supervision during which students will be able to explain, discuss and refine their particular ideas (including organisation specific research problems) with their supervisor through regular supervision.
The learning and teaching methods include:
1. Compulsory workshop and surgeries designed to develop report writing skills
2. Student-led class discussions and research scenarios are used to put theory into application and transform the acquired knowledge into practice3. One-on-one supervision
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
