PRODUCTION TEAM ROLE - 2020/1

A weighted aggregate mark of 40% is required to pass the module.
This module is designed to allow students to undertake a support role in a time critical production environment. Students will work in support of both the assigned departmental work and explore the collaborative nature of production through the communication and delivery of a live performance, delivered by a multi-discipline production response.
Working within their peer group, freelance and in-house production teams, students will be able to apply and evidence basic skill acquisition in the core domains of pre-production, production and post-production roles and responsibilities.

Prerequisites / Co-requisites
Successful completion of all prior Level 4 introductory subjects.
Indicative content includes:
- Production team ‘Casual’ role in one of three core production departments (Lighting, Sound, Stage Management)
- Students will work within a small team under the supervision of the PTU to facilitate the preparation, rigging, and operation of technical elements for performance. Students may also support the work of a team in the administration, prop sourcing or other activities relating to the work of the stage management department.
- Students may work variously with freelance/professional teams, second and third year students or in-house technicians on a range of GSA/School of Arts presentations.

- Apply skills learnt in previous class/workshops to the practical realisation of the work of a Lighting, Sound or Stage Management production department
- Aid familiarity and confidence in recognising technical components in their preparation, rigging and operation

Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to:
- Enable the student to demonstrate practical application of skills at an introductory level.
- Encourage the acquisition of intermediate knowledge and skills in one or more subject areas.
- Prompt independent study and development of new found areas of interest within the wider Production Skills portfolio.
The learning and teaching methods include:
- Attendance and contribution to production meetings and ad hoc briefings.
- Specialist demonstration and instruction (rigging at height, electrical Health and Safety, etc.)
- Competency exercises in basic theory and practice of production.
- Workshops and ad hoc sessions with visiting creative/ production professionals.
- Compilation of Production Notebook as learning and reference tool.
(Hours of activity dependent on size and genre of production, venue and contributing number of freelance or associate professional staff)
This module attempts to facilitate key areas of the Programme learning and teaching strategy specifically those defining demonstration and review within workshops, rehearsals, productions, practical classes, laboratory/studio-based practice, screenings, lectures, seminars, tutorials and tutor and learner-directed practical projects evidencing core, elementary theory and practice.
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
