In light of the Covid-19 pandemic the University has revised its courses to incorporate the ‘Hybrid Learning Experience’ in a departure from previous academic years and previously published information. The University has changed the delivery (and in some cases the content) of its programmes. We have updated key module information regarding the pattern of assessment and overall student workload to inform student module choices. We are currently working on bringing remaining published information up to date to reflect current practice in time for the start of the academic year 2021/22.

This module is geared exclusively to the preparation (both instrumentally/vocally and intellectually) of a single concert performance. The module only suits students who have a high level of independent learning skills as the quantity of tuition is limited and intended to provide interpretative guidance rather than more basic skills in learning repertoire.
All students on this module are encouraged to give the first performance of a new work, and are encouraged to work with composers to this end.

The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate the self-sufficient development of technical, interpretative and performance skills at, or on the threshold of, a professional standard and to enable them to show an informed awareness of all aspects of performance including repertoire and programming.
Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:
- A 35-minute solo recital on their main instrument or voice
- This will be agreed with instrumental/vocal tutors and performance staff but may include informal play-throughs and/or trialling repertoire in off-campus concerts
- From instrumental tutors
- From relevant performance staff depending on formative assessment as above
- Detailed written feedback is given after the formative assessment detailing strengths and areas for improvement.
- To enable you to develop technical, musical and interpretational skills to a level which prepares you for presenting solo concerts with maturity, authority and control in a wide range of complex and challenging repertoire
- To enable you to develop a professional level of stamina in performance.
- To encourage you to work with composers in the creation of new repertoire

The learning and teaching strategy is designed to:
- support you as you continue to extend and refine your technical, interpretative and performance skills LO 1-4
- enable you to work as a largely self-sufficient learner as you research and prepare repertoire LO5
The learning and teaching methods include:
- Individual tuition
- Individual practice
- Coaching as appropriate
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
