  • a critical understanding of key principles related to teaching EAP

  • practical knowledge and skills needed to teach and assess in an EAP context

Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:

  • a 2,000 word essay taken from a choice of titles

  • a 1,500 word report built on constructing a needs analysis tool and interpreting the results

The formative assessment for the module will be carried out using a range of online tasks.

Feedback

Group and individual feedback on tasks will be provided during the input sessions.

Individual feedback on the assessed work will be provided online via SurreyLearn.

Module aims

  • This module aims to review and evaluate EAP with regard to the role of the English language learner and tutor. In addition, it will review and evaluate the kind of language commonly used in EAP contexts. It will then concentrate more specifically on how these principles can be applied to academic contexts both for learners intending to study in Higher Education on pre-sessional programmes and other learners already enrolled on degree courses on in-sessional programmes.
