Leadership is the process through which individuals influence and are influenced by one or more people to accomplish group / organizational goals. It is one of the most important determinants of employee well-being and performance as well as organisational effectiveness. A central part of effective leadership and management is decision making under various organizations and contextual conditions. The rationale for this module is to enable students to critically evaluate different approaches to leadership and decision making in organisational settings and to understand the determinants of leadership and decision-making effectiveness and leadership development.

The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate
Practical, technical, and self-reflective skills relevant to leadership and decision-making at work.
Advanced critical and conceptual understanding of leadership and decision making.
Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:
- A 2-hour closed book examination (essay based).
- A self-development portfolio (circa 3000-words) based on an self-reflection, and use of diagnostic tools to understand own leadership style and development needs, in the context of contributing effectively to organizations as a psychologist.
Verbal feedback on class activities. Feedback on the portfolio also serves a formative function.
In writing and verbal feedback from the module team based on activities contributing to the portfolio.
- Introduce and provide frameworks of concepts, theories and processes of leadership effectiveness and development
- Develop students' critical analysis of theories and models of leadership behaviour.
- Develop students' critical analysis of concepts and theories of decision making in organizations.
- Provide an integrative understanding of the role of leaders in developing organizations (e.g. organization strategy) and leading organizational change.
- Provide an evidence-based appreciation of leadership development.
- Enable students to develop awareness of their own leadership styles and development needs.
