Prerequisites / Co-requisites
Successful completion of Year 2 of the BVMSci programme & VMS3008
Lectures: Topics on performing and communicating a clinical research project (5 lectures) &/or online material. Supervision: 10 one hour weekly meetings with supervisors to discuss research progress and capture on research log book. Self directed project work: Students will be expected to spend a minimum of 17 days on project work which includes data collection and preparation of assessments.

The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities to apply research methods and communicate the outcomes of a research study. The summative assessment for this module consists of: ; Research log book 15% ; Scientific paper (2500 words) in the format of The Veterinary Journal 85%. Formative assessment and feedback :- Formative feedback is provided during the weekly meetings with facilitators.

Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to enable the module learning outcomes to be achieved through guidance provided by: lectures, supervisor feedback, peer discussion, self-directed experiential learning thorough the participation in a research study. The primary mode through which this is achieved is through the weekly meetings with supervisors at which students will discuss their research log book and receive tutorial support. Supervisors fulfil the role of facilitators rather then project managers.
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
