In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, and in a departure from previous academic years and previously published information, the University has had to change the delivery (and in some cases the content) of its programmes, together with certain University services and facilities for the academic year 2020/21.

This module follows on from the UG Live Event Project (Event Planning & Marketing) module in semester one. The major part of this module is devoted towards the actual marketing, sales and delivery of a live event planned by Event Teams in semester one followed by reporting on the project outcomes and the presentation of variance analysis between the project intensions as set out within the planning documents in semester one (including the PFS, the PMP and the EMP) and the final outcomes in all areas of the project.
Student Event Teams will undertake marketing activities to promote their events, create income streams, manage cash flows, create final Risk Assessments and deliver all aspects of the planned events from set-up of the event venues to the final break down and clearing up upon the completion of events. In the post event period following on from the completion of the Live Event, students’ will report back on the outcomes from their project and then draw up individual reflections on their own learning and their experience of working within an event project team.
This module is intended to be taken by students returning from exchange programmes run within semester one of the L5 second year. Returning students will be assigned to Event Teams by the module leader as is deemed appropriate. Students must attend the first week(s) of this module so that they can be fully inducted into the module, the event projects and planning within their assigned Event Teams.

CW1 Individually, using the template provided by the module leader, critically assess an event. The word count for this paper is 1000 words. The event to be assessed must be agreed in advance by the module leader. CW2 Individually, using an example of a post event report, provide critical analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the projects marketing and financial performance. The word count for this is 750 words. The post event report will be provided by the module leader. CW3 Individually, using an example individual reflective report, critique the team culture, communications, team role type and management and leadership. The word count for this is 750 words. The reflective report will be provided by the module leader.

The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate both the theoretical and practical skills they have developed in the module. Thus, the summative assessments for this module will consist of:
the summative assessment for this module consists of three pieces of Group Work which are:
CW1 (Group) The Live Event (TLE) This will include all logistical, operational, production, staff and visitor management and the delivery of excellent event and visitor experiences
Weighting = 35%
CW2 (Group) The Post Event Report (PER). This will be a comprehensive report on the project outcomes with identification of any gaps between the intensions and the outcome from the event project and key areas of success or failure Weighting = 40%
CW3 (Individual) students will provide a reflective report (IRF) that focuses on their experience of working within an even team in its mission to stage the live event. The areas of focus will include learning, learning styles, reflective learning, problem based learning, work-based learning, teamwork, role preferences, administration, management and leadership
Weighting = 25%
A) Student Event Teams must submit a final Risk Assessment for the event with the last week before the event but no later than 48 hours before the event and the event will be able to go ahead subject to the module teaching team being satisfied that the students seem able to deliver a safe event for all.
B) In the post event period the student Event Teams will create and disseminate a post event Press release within which ever channels they wish and this press release should be received by all module staff, key stakeholders such as sponsors and the nominated charity.
During the pre-event period of the development of the event project, each team will receive verbal feedback about their marketing, sales and ongoing event planning.
Feedback will be given for the actual Live Events as formal feedback and disseminated as part of the post event and project feedback session to be held with all event teams. .
The Post Event Report will be formally marked and written feedback provided within the agreed time for such summative assessments.

Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to: Facilitate the development of students’ knowledge and skills in delivering live events and their understanding of post project reporting, analysis and the venue of individual reflection as a tool for learning and personal development. The learning and teaching strategy is also designed to assist in the developments of student’s confidence and competence in working with others in challenging operations in order to achieve key outcome. This module is taught as a 3 hour weekly workshop running for 11 weeks.
The learning and teaching methods include:
The learning and teaching methods are designed to encourage students to respond to formal presentations industry type briefings and instruction and take responsibility for their areas of management. This module will consist of four weeks of team meetings and pertinent briefings and instructions and materials in order to facilitate the organisation and cohesion of the event teams. Student Event Teams will deliver their Live Event in the week 4-8 period of the second semester . The remaining teaching weeks and sessions will be used to provide debriefings and instructions on reflective analysis, learning and self-development. Meetings will be run by the teaching staff and follow a weekly agenda of key topics pertinent to the stage of the event project and/ or the needs of the Event Team.
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
