    • The examination should demonstrate both comprehension and analysis of the scenario / questions and the ability to apply theory to practice.

    • The work should be presented neatly and written in an academic style using correct spelling. .

    • N.B. If a student recommends care which is unsafe practice; the assessment will be awarded a fail grade.

A reference list to be taken into the midwifery emergency exam and submitted with the  exam paper. Ten references only, in the Harvard style of referencing, should be written on one side of A4 paper, using size 12 font.

Module aims

  • The module examines deviations from normal midwifery care, including assessing the likelihood of such deviations; this allows the student to prepare for & recognise the onset of pathological occurrences.  The module will explore midwifery management and the midwife's role as part of the midwifery team, making management decisions.  In addition, the module examines therapeutic interventions encountered during midwifery emergencies and the rationale for their use reflecting current research findings.
