Educational aims of the programme
- The overall aim of the Certificate is to develop participants' understanding of theories of learning and teaching, to enhance reflection on how these underpin effective practice in higher education and help evaluation of past, present and future activity. The programme emphasises the integration of conceptual knowledge, practical capability and personal development.
- Develop participant knowledge , skills and understanding of academic practice within Higher Education
- Broaden participant understanding of learning and teaching strategies and enhance their capacity to select appropriately and implement these effectively
- Develop participant understanding of the depth and breadth of literature on academic practice at generic and discipline level
- Enhance participant understanding and appreciation of ethical issues and boundaries within learning and teaching
- Develop participant ability to analyse and reflect upon the dynamics between theory and practice
- Enable each participant to apply their developing knowledge when planning their professional and personal development

On successful completion of the programme (consisting of four modules) participants are eligible for Fellowship status of the Higher Education Academy. Successful completion of Module 1 only can lead to Associate Fellowship status of the Higher Education Academy. Participants may also apply to progress to the Masters in Higher Education.
