In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, and in a departure from previous academic years and previously published information, the University has had to change the delivery (and in some cases the content) of its programmes, together with certain University services and facilities for the academic year 2020/21.

Traditional theories of public economics justify government interventions in the economy on the grounds of market failure, equity and/or political considerations, each of which can be examined empirically and/or mathematically. Such interventions can loosely be divided to cover three issues: revenue raising, expenditure and project evaluation. This module covers aspects of each of these issues using a mixture of theory and policy discussion.

Thus the summative assessment for this module consists of:
- One class test (20%) around week 9. This will provide students with an assessment of their understanding of the basic concepts.
- Final exam of two hours (80%) in weeks 13-15, which includes discussion and technical questions.
- Guide students in using microeconomic theory to interpret and evaluate Government policy.
