Within this assignment you will explore an ethical situation common to children’s nursing which would require the children’s nurse to act as an advocate for the child, to protect the child’s rights and/or empower the child and family. There is a huge breath of areas you could examine however some possible examples could include: An area within safeguarding children and young people, parental withdrawal or refusal of treatment, child’s refusal of treatment, child’s right to involvement in decision making of care; end of life care planning, parental conflicting views, appropriate use of restraint, pain management, ensuring the use of evidence based practice, the use of unlicensed medications.
Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:
An essay exploring an ethical challenge within children’s nursing, that will include consideration of children’s rights, empowerment and current legislation.
Formative assessment Group and individual feedback from tutors following completion of an essay plan
Feedback Feedback is available from the module team throughout the module following each session and students wereare encouraged to feedback any issues to the module team. Formative feedback following the essay plan would inform the summative assessment
- This module will enable the student to explore their role in empowering and protecting children and young people in contemporary UK society.
