Educational aims of the programme

  • Train and develop actors with an appreciation and understanding of creative, aesthetic and communication high order performance skills in a broad range of artistic situations.
  • Provide a theoretical understanding and critical awareness of key theatrical, cultural and social contexts
  • Develop intellectual and practical skills to reinforce and articulate self-reflection and critical awareness
  • Develop critical and independent practitioners imbued with a sense of learning as a lifetime pursuit via a commitment to professional and personal development
  • Provide an integrated approach within an academic and vocational creative training environment in pursuit of developing and sustaining a career within the performance and entertainment industries
  • Introduce and develop the relevant skills and techniques required of the contemporary musical theatre performer within a variety of performance contexts and environments

Programme structure

Full-time

This Bachelor's Degree (Honours) programme is studied full-time over three academic years, consisting of 360 credits (120 credits at FHEQ levels 4, 5 and 6). All modules are 15, 30, 45 or 60 credits and are either semester based or year-long. GSA delivers its provision across three teaching blocks, within the University of Surrey’s existing semester structure.
