In light of the Covid-19 pandemic the University has revised its courses to incorporate the ‘Hybrid Learning Experience’ in a departure from previous academic years and previously published information. This module is intended to develop students’ film production skills. Introducing professional camerawork, lighting, sound for location recording and editing skills for programme production.

- Pre-production in practice

- Camera settings such as white balance, shutter speed, format etc

- Programme development and the application of storytelling
- The application of digital video standards

The assessment strategy is designed to give students the opportunity to apply their understanding of the production process and showcase their professional craft skills It allows written feedback opportunities on a written assignment (Coursework 1). The practical workshops give the opportunity for formative feedback
Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:
- Coursework 1 – Health and Safety Risk assessment
- Coursework 2 – A variety of small group workshops assessments showing skills in camerawork, lighting, sound recording and editing.
- Coursework 3 – Film production which will be an individual production but each student must help with two other films
There are no formal formative assessment components for this module, but formative feedback will be given to individual students in tutorials practical workshops and during critiques
Students receive written feedback on their coursework and verbal feedback on their practical work throughout the module, particularly workshops.

Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to: develop understanding of the production process and the implementation of the creative process to the industry craft skills which start to develop professional skills.
The learning and teaching methods include:
- One two-hour lecture per week.
- Five three-hour practical workshops on equipment knowledge and operation. Students are split into two groups meeting on alternating weeks (weeks 1 – 10).
- One three hour programme review and critiques in Wk 12
- Guided reading.
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
