Module Overview
The module is based on independent research and collaborative work in pairs, complemented with supervision. Students are to report, review and present their work and critique the work of their peers and co-author a final document. The module starts with the preparation and submission of a proposal of the independent work by student pairs. Thereafter, supervision is conducted individually and/or in groups, parallel with seminars where the progression is reported. During the module, the students will conduct a literature review relevant to the task, conduct primary research and provide a critical analysis of findings. The students will report on their independent research and be subjected to opposition by another student group. Clear measurements for co-authorship contribution are an essential part of the module and assessments. The overall objective of the module is to stimulate independent, creative and reflected work of a clear, academic character and to allow students to collaborate with a peer on producing a research document.

Assessment Strategy
The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate independent research, critical thought and collaborative writing
This is a two part assessment
- A1= Co-authored Research Document
- A2= Critical review of other peer group’s work at the end of the module (on the final submission) during a seminar
Students should only be able to select a topic that the participating tutors/lecturers provide each year for them to get “expert” supervision. It will also allow the tutors/lectures to set up supervision sessions for more than one group at the time.
Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:
• A1 weighted at 80% ( 8000 words)
• A2 weighted at 20% (verbal analysis)

Module aims
- Prepare students for independent and collaborative research informed by combined qualitative and quantitative methods
- To equip students to design, with minimal supervision and guidance, programmes of primary empirical research, taking into consideration issues of research ethics, data generation, data analysis and reporting of findings
- Challenge students to critically evaluate the philosophical assumptions of their peers
- Enable students to have confidence in their abilities to analyse data, conduct research in the work place and wider operating environment

Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to:
Provide the students with a framework for developing independent research and facilitating collaboration with a peer on the co-authorship of a research document. Teaching sessions will be selective to cover key aspects of the collaborative and co-authorship process. Individual and joint supervision will then provide direct input for collection of data and production of final document.
There will be some scheduled classes/seminars during the module which will be in addition to supervision

Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
