In light of the Covid-19 pandemic the University has revised its courses to incorporate the ‘Hybrid Learning Experience’ in a departure from previous academic years and previously published information. The University has changed the delivery (and in some cases the content) of its programmes. We have updated key module information regarding the pattern of assessment and overall student workload to inform student module choices. We are currently working on bringing remaining published information up to date to reflect current practice in time for the start of the academic year 2021/22.

While the dissertation provides an in-depth understanding of a specific topic, this module is designed to provide students a broad-based understanding of their specific discipline or field. It will introduce students to contemporary developments in their discipline focusing on a selected number of topics which reflect the research interests of academic staff. The issues to be covered will be of both substantive (theory, debates, and findings) and methodological nature.

The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their learning and achievement of the module’s learning outcomes.
Thus, the summative assessment for this unit consists of:
- Assessment 1
Each student will make a presentation on a module-relevant topic different from their dissertation topic.
- Assessment 2
Each student will submit a term paper that provides a comprehensive review of the literature on the above topic.
Instructors will provide feedback during the session and office hours.

Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to ensure students achieve the learning outcomes. As a seminar style module, students will be expected to read assigned journal articles and attend each session ready to participate in class discussions. Each instructor will structure discussions around specific themes consistent with the module’s objectives.
The learning and teaching methods include:

Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
