This module is designed to introduce to students the concepts of business processes management and explores the opportunities, benefits and challenges business process modelling and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) create for the business organization and its management.

Students who fail the group project will carry out an individual computer lab work which is in alignment with the objectives of the module.
Each student will keep a running report with weekly entries related to the topics discussed in class. In the first week students will pick a large company or subsidiary and apply knowledge from the class session towards the operation of that company and the impact a SAP (or other ERP) system would have on the way operations are accomplished. The mark for the report will count towards 70% of the class grade. It will be in alignment with the criteria related to learning outcomes (1, 2 and 3).
For the SAP lab assignment (30% of the total mark), the students will be assed based on the quality of the Business processes created using the SAP system. The run-down of the operational (accounting) figures for each process reflects the quality of students’ work, and allows direct assessment of what went right/wrong at a glance. Students will be informed about the SAP case studies in the beginning of the semester. This will be in alignment with the criteria related to learning outcomes (4 and 5)
Formative assessment and feedback
•Students will receive individual and group feedback during the module from the tutor.
- This module guides students through advanced concepts of business process management in today’s dynamic business environment. The module will provide students with both a theoretical and practical understanding of how the functionalities of ERP systems delivers a successful business process management within organisations. The module provides two sets of objectives. One set of objectives achieved by the class lectures highlights the operation of processes and implications for the business organization and its managers. Secondly, the module also exposes students to modelling of business processes using the SAP platform. This objective accomplished in the PC lab will allow students to gain an understanding and hands-on experience of the operation and impact of processes as operationalized by information technology. Each of the topics covered by the course will be critically evaluated to point out the advantages and disadvantages from, information technology driven processes.

The learning and teaching strategy is designed to:

The teaching and learning strategy is designed to emphasis on the one hand management's role in process creation and operation within the business environment, while at the same time develop student skills needed to manage and work with the SAP software platform.
The teaching and learning methods are aligned with the module aims and include a weekly lecture and five workshops in the computing laboratory, during which we will work with the SAP platform.
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
