Occupational, and work and organizational psychologists adopt a dual-focus on outcomes for people in organizations, emphasizing both performance and well-being and engagement at work. This module explores these two areas of focus and considers the measurement and management of performance, and how motivation theories explain performance variation. The module also looks at well-being at work, considering issues of workplace health and stress, employee engagement, satisfaction and commitment, and the role of emotion in all of these aspects.

The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate
Practical, technical, problem solving and planning skills relevant to managing performance and well-being at work.
Critical and conceptual perspectives on performance, motivation, well-being and psychological health at work.
Thus, the summative assessments for this module consists of:
A 3000-word critical essay in the areas of performance measurement, motivation or well-being at work.
A case-study report (3000-words) based on an analysis of the performance management needs of an organizational case, and proposal for intervention to manage performance and well-being effectively.
In writing on both assignments and verbal feedback from the module team based on case-study preparation.
- Introduce and provide frameworks of concepts and processes of performance measurement and management in organizations.
- Develop students' critical analysis of theories and models of motivation and job design.
- Develop students' critical analysis of concepts and research on employee engagement, satisfaction, commitment, and other markers of well-being.
- Provide an integrative understanding of stress and health at work.
- Provide an evidence-based and strategic appreciation of managing performance and well-being at work.
- Enable students to develop practical transferable skills in analyzing performance management needs in an organization.

Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration.
