In light of the Covid-19 pandemic the University has revised its courses to incorporate the ‘Hybrid Learning Experience’ in a departure from previous academic years and previously published information. The University has changed the delivery (and in some cases the content) of its programmes. We have updated key module information regarding the pattern of assessment and overall student workload to inform student module choices. We are currently working on bringing remaining published information up to date to reflect current practice in time for the start of the academic year 2021/22.

The module is designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding to recognise, assess and manage deteriorating patients in the acute period. It will focus on the importance of using a structured approach to assessment; accurate interpretation of observe and collected data; recognition of abnormal findings and appropriate implementation of care. Effective communication and an overall holistic approach will be integrated themes.

- Overview of pathophysiological changes in identified acute conditions
- Systematic physical assessment using an ABCDE approach
- Assessment, measurement, interpretation of abnormal physiological findings.
- Overview of intial life-saving interventions for managing the unwell deteriorating patient.
- Overview of pyschosocial and ethical considerations in the treatment management of the unwell deterorating patient.

Provides the students with the opportunity to demonstrate; Knowledge and understanding of systematic assessment that links underlying pathophysiology, with presented assessment findings. To determine the ability of students to select appropriate interventions using an evidence based approach.
the summative assessment for this module consists of:
- Online examination, with seen scenario data provided 6 weeks before the examination
- Shortened seen scenario presented as online mock examination
- Feedback from the formative examination
- Opportunity to request to see the their summative paper by appointment only
Throughout the module students will receive verbal feedback on performance in simulated scenario’s
- The module aims to develop a deep and systematic understanding of the importance of rapid assessment, interpretation of assessment data and management of the deteriorating patient
