Educational aims of the programme

  • Train and develop stage and production managers to have a deep experiential appreciation and understanding of management and communication within creative facilitation of production, and a high level of practical skills in a broad range of artistic situations.
  • Provide a theoretical understanding and critical awareness of key theatrical and cultural contexts.
  • Develop intellectual and practical skills to encourage a high level of self-reflection and critical awareness.
  • Develop critical and independent practitioners imbued with a sense of learning as a lifetime pursuit, as well as a commitment to professional and personal development.
  • Provide an integrated approach within an academic and vocational creative training environment, aimed at developing and sustaining a career within the performance and entertainment industries.

Programme structure

Full-time

This Master's Degree programme is studied full-time over one academic year, consisting of 180 credits at FHEQ level 7. All modules are 15, 30, 45 or 60 credits and are either semester based or year-long. GSA delivers its provision across three teaching blocks, within the University of Surrey’s existing semester structure.
Possible exit awards include:
