This module will provide the students with the opportunity to harness previously learned business analytics methods to solve a problem in their respective proposed plan (business analytics challenge project 1). The students will submit a substantial piece of work with practical solutions to the problem.

· Effective academic writing and presentations.

· Introduction to empirical qualitative and quantitative research.

Assessment Strategy

The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate:

their ability to utilise relevant business analytics methods within a suitable research project, conduct independent empirical research and write a project report.

Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:

· Business Analytics Challenge (100%)

Each student will have to submit a 4500-words research implementation report in week 11 of the semester including data collection, results and analysis, discussion, and conclusion.

 

Formative assessment

Supervision sessions will be used as formative assessment outlets where supervisors will assess progress and advice on how to improve the project.

 

Feedback

A supervisor will be allocated to the group by the module co-ordinator. Each student/group is required to have up to 4 meetings with the supervisor, who will monitor the project progress and provide formative feedback during these meetings.

Module aims

  • · To allow students to consolidate learning in previous stages by expanding their knowledge of the relevant research methods.
  • · Students will acquire and develop a number of skills in business analytics of realistic problems.
  • · Students will be assisted in presenting the project according to accepted academic conventions.

Methods of Teaching / Learning

The learning and teaching strategy is designed to:
encourage critical understanding of the role played by analytics for business decision making. Learning will be supported through a combination of lectures and online discussion groups, plus directed and self-directed study to solve problems and present findings

Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
