In an increasingly globalised business and business environment, it is necessary for management students to learn how to strategies internationally viable global strategies. This module covers a variety of topics such as global strategic analysis, global strategy formulation, and global strategy execution. Strategy-related subjects shape at least half of the contents in this programme.

Indicative content includes: 


  • Introduction to the process of Global Strategic Management.

  • Global/external environment analysis.

  • Industry level analysis.

  • Process of global strategy formulation.

  • Formulating global strategy at the industry and conglomerate levels.

  • Formulating global strategy at the corporate and business levels.

  • Global strategy execution.

Assessment Strategy

The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate an understanding of fundamental global strategy concepts in the context of a global business environment.  
Thus, the summative assessment (the one that you would receive a mark) for this module consists of:
An individual assignment, which addresses learning outcomes: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. 100%
Formative feedback
The online seminars will offer opportunity for students to receive formative feedback on topics covered and the assessment to help improve students understanding on topics and performance in their assessed work.  


  • During the live sessions, the requirements of each assessment component and the feedback process will be explained.

  • As the live sessions are built around topic-specific group exercises, students do not only benefit from the module leader but also receive peer evaluations.

  • A Q&A and feedback session is provided for each assessment component.



A detailed marking scheme is provided for students at the beginning of semester together with the assessment details. This allows students to identify what is expected of them. The marking scheme outlines the percentage figures for each assessment component. This is also essential as it allows for consistency in the marking process.

Methods of Teaching / Learning

The learning and teaching strategy is designed to provide structured formal learning through the online environment. By actively engaging in the full range of guided learning activities students will explore the fundamental concepts, tools and theories of the module to create new knowledge and build on existing experience. The live learning sessions are designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn through the application of skills, discussion and peer learning. Students are invited to contribute to discussions from their own background and experiences and are encouraged to be actively involved in problem solving, thus developing their own judgements, opinions and critical thinking. Students are expected to utilise independent learning to deepen their knowledge and skills in core areas of interest.
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to provide a range of learning opportunities in an integrative way to facilitate the development of key knowledge areas described above.
The learning and teaching methods include three sections as follow:


  • Seminars: You will be prepared and guided to write your assignment in the seminars.

  • Guided Learning: You will be guided on what to study and how to get the best materials.

  • Independent Study: As a masters student, you are expected to take charge of your own learning.



The online discussions on our online platform would be the complementary method. Teaching notes and additional material will be made available on our online platform and regular exercises will be set up to test students’ understanding on an on-going basis.

Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.

Other information

Global and cultural capabilities: In this module, we prepare our students to work in a multicultural global working environment. Students and staff on this module are from diverse and culturally rich backgrounds. As such, students broaden their own world view, perspectives and interpretations by interacting in a culturally varied environment.
Digital capabilities: During the module students use a range of digital capabilities previously explored in the programme. Depending on the direction chosen some students will engage with several platforms, for example research software such as SPSS and NVivo.
Employability: This module enables students to explore topics of interest from the programme and related to their future employability. Students will gain experience of writing clearly and cohesively for a target audience, key skills that are vital in the workplace.
Resourcefulness and resilience: The module involves practical critical thinking that teach students how to identify and assess critical factors that inform and organization’s approach to strategy. The module encourages students to become critical thinkers who can independently and confidently evaluate relevant theories and apply these to practical examples.
Sustainability: The notion of sustainability is taught directly and indirectly in almost all modules. One of the intentions of the module is to advance students’ understanding and awareness of aspects of sustainability. The module is informed by the three pillars of sustainability – economic, social, and environment.
