Module Overview

By the end of Level 6, the student will be expected to generate a critical and realistic understanding of their present and future place in the Industry.

This module focuses on the student's training on the BA Musical Theatre Course and their comprehension of the Industry and their future within it.  This is assessed by a Written Professional Profile Report (2,500 words).   This report may give reference to training, but is mainly focussed on the student's plans for the first five years of work in the Industry.  

A full brief of the requirements for this Written Professional Profile Report will be communicated to students via this module, and through tutor led group discussion.  

This module promotes the understanding to students of the creation of sustainable funding streams, sustaining practice in a financially viable way post graduation.  The module encourages enterprise and entrepreneurship, and fosters an understanding of relevant sustainable financial and business models and social sustainability.

This module contains the main written element of the BA Musical Theatre course at Level 6.  This written piece allows student to consider practice and their work in the training.   It focuses on their entry to the Industry and future within it.

Assessment Strategy

The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to:

Reflect on practice, critically analyse, exhibiting comprehension of the Industry (and their role within it) - embedded within a Professional Profile Report demonstrating writing skills.

 

Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:

Written Assessment: PROFESSIONAL PROFILE REPORT (2,500 Words): 100%: Teaching Block 3

Learning outcomes

Methods of Teaching / Learning

The learning and teaching strategy is designed to:

• Consolidate and encourage students to reflect on practice and to underpin methodological understanding with critical analysis whilst embedding writing skills.

• Across Level 6, this module is delivered through a blend of initial tutor led sessions (in order to brief the students), followed by independent/guided study.


• Throughout the module, tutor support is available to enable students to comprehend and achieve learning outcomes.

• The approach of the module encourages students to participate in reflection of their own sustained practice, independent study and research.


• The approach of this module encourages students to focus on current Industry processes and their future within it.


• Students are encouraged to utilise materials on SurreyLearn and participate in tutor led group sessions to help in forming their learning experience.


• Students are encouraged to journal notes during their process to aid their work on this written piece.

Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
