Module Overview
This module is designed to introduce students to the practice and process of production management in the entertainment industry, underpinned by relevant theory of management. This builds on the foundational skills acquired in Teaching Block 1 and complements practical production work throughout the programme. Students are encouraged to develop proactive and self-motivated working practices which are central to the work of a production manager in the creative industries.

Assessment Strategy
The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate a confident and competent level of ability in production and project management for the creative industries, incorporating theoretical knowledge, practical techniques and transferable skills.
Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:
- A comprehensive production plan for an unrealised project, including schedules, budgets, staffing and all resource requirements - Coursework, 5000 words (addresses learning outcomes 1, 2, 3,4)

- Verbal peer and tutor feedback within peer review workshop
- Written tutor feedback will be given for the summative assessment
Module aims
- Introduce students to theories and concepts of management
- Provide a range of practical and transferable project and production management skills relevant to varied global and cultural contexts within the creative industries
- Encourage students to develop and reflect on personal organisational skills
- Enable students to approach the facilitation of a creative process in a systematic and holistic way

Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to provide a variety of learning and teaching methods which fit with the overall aims & strategy of the programme and are appropriate to the study of professional production management. There is a balance of individual work and of tutor-led and student-led sessions. The strategy encourages individual learning, questioning, analysis and reflection as well as enabling students to develop skills in research, communication, planning and negotiation.
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.

Students will be expected to use digital methodologies/platforms for project planning, information sharing and research in the creation of the production plan.

This module will explore the wide range of contexts for creative and cultural events globally and students will consider how events are successfully planned and managed in international and intercultural contexts.
Employability
This module introduces students to the process and practices of professional production managers in the entertainment industry. Students will practice these skills in the research and creation of the production plan, hence developing networks and employability in this field.
Resourcefulness and Resilience
Students will be expected to undertake self-motivated independent research within professional networks in order to create their production plan. They will need to be resourceful in problem solving and demonstrate resilience in looking for solutions to ensure their plan would be feasible in reality.
Sustainability
During this module students will develop their understanding of sustainability throughout production activities and processes. This will include working practices that promote wellbeing, inclusivity and economic sustainability as well as responsible use of resources across all production departments. Students will also consider how these principles might transfer into the organisations and institutions of the professional creative industries.
