Module Overview

This is the final module for the Post Graduate Certificate in Business and Management Education (Teacher Training) and functions as the practical element of the programme with a practical assessment. It is designed as a 3-day summer school on campus unless there are travel restrictions in place and agreed. Students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and deliver a workshop to peers and a panel including graduates and academics.

Module content

This module focuses on three areas:


  • Body.Mind.Space – Teaching in the classroom online and in-person

  • Working in a teaching team and preparing a workshop

  • Delivering a workshop in practice

Alternative Assessment

The group project can be replaced under specific circumstances with an individual 1 hour workshop delivered by the student.

Assessment Strategy

The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate:

 


  • Knowledge and understanding of what becoming and being a business and management educator entails and how to work in a teaching team.

  • Personal and professional development and insights gained during the module



 

Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:

 


  • Practical assessment (50%) – workshop design and delivery



The practical assessment refers to learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4.


  • Prospective account (10 min, 50%)



The prospective account should be submitted as an audio recording and refers to learning outcome 4 and 5.

 

Formative assessment


  • Before the start of the summer school students are invited to participate in an educator psychometric test which provides insight into their capability as an educator from various angles.

  • Throughout the first two days of the summer school students will be observed by an external coach to receive additional feedback on their ability to work in a teaching team.  



Feedback


  • Feedback will be provided online via the virtual learning environment and face-to-face during personal learning consultations and throughout the summer school. Feedback will be given to formative and summative assessments.


Module aims

  • Assess the student¿s ability to lead and facilitate a workshop and engage the audience individually and as part of a teaching team.
  • Evaluate the students suitability for teaching in a business school context based on workshop design, delivery and giving feedback.
  • Provide students with personal and professional tools to develop a distinctive educator identity and philosophy through application of knowledge and established reflective and prospective practices.

Methods of Teaching / Learning

The learning and teaching strategy is designed as follows:

The 3 day summer schools adopts a flipped class room approach and consist of three days:

Day 1: Body.Mind.Space full day workshop that explores the alignment of body.mind and space relevant for delivering and facilitating in-person or online learning and teaching. 
Day 2: Practical Brief & Assessment day preparation gives students the opportunity to prepare and design their workshop for Day 3.
Day 3: Practical assessment day tests students knowledge and skills of being an educator in business and management education.

Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
