PHARMACOKINETIC MODELLING - 2028/9
Module code: CHE3075
Module Overview
In this module, you will develop a high-level understanding of how drugs behave in the body and how this behaviour can be described and predicted. You will build the foundational pharmacokinetic thinking needed to interpret drug concentration - time data and to understand how dosing, formulation, and physiological factors influence drug performance. The knowledge and skills gained in this module will advance your learning in drug chemistry and biopharmaceutics design, helping you to connect molecular properties and formulation choices with in vivo drug behaviour and therapeutic outcomes.
Please note that the information detailed within this record is accurate at the time of publishing and may be subject to change. This record contains information for the most up to date version of the programme / module for the 2028/9 academic year.

Module aims
- Introduce the fundamental principles of pharmacokinetic modelling and its role in understanding drug behaviour
- Enable students to understand and interpret key pharmacokinetic metrics relevant to drug and formulation design.
- Develop the ability to apply pharmacokinetic concepts to real-world drug development scenarios.
- Progress students from basic modelling approaches to more advanced pharmacokinetic modelling strategies.
- Develop skills in analysing, visualising and interpreting pharmacokinetic datasets using appropriate tools.
- Enable students to critically evaluate modelling assumptions, limitations and applications.

Methods of Teaching / Learning
.
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
