Other information
The University of Surrey is committed to developing graduates with strengths in Employability, Digital Capabilities, Global and Cultural Capabilities, Sustainability, and Resourcefulness and Resilience. This programme is designed to allow students to develop knowledge, skills, and capabilities in the following areas:
Digital capabilities: Students use specialist data acquisition and analysis software, Monte Carlo modelling, Python and treatment planning tools. Applications include dose and shielding calculations, AI and data science, preparing students for healthcare and biomedical industry.
Employability: The IPEM-accredited programme prepares students for healthcare, industry and academia. Academic, industry and healthcare lecturers provide specialist perspectives. Advanced physics, modelling, laboratory and group work develop problem-solving, teamwork and communication through reports, posters and presentations.
Global and cultural capabilities: Students explore technologies supporting accessible, sustainable diagnosis and treatment. Diverse group work and an Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity workshop develop awareness, reflection and inclusive practice for working in diverse teams.
Resourcefulness and resilience: Experiments, analytical calculations and modelling help students tackle complex nuclear and radiation physics problems, including dose calculations and image quality evaluation. Small-group laboratory work develops skills in interpreting data and solving open-ended problems.
Sustainability: Students study established and emerging imaging and treatment methods in their clinical context. Considering costs, quality assurance and equipment lifecycles supports informed sustainability decisions in healthcare and industry.
