Module aims

  • This module will help to develop students' knowledge and understanding of reproductive and sexual health.  Using research evidence, the module aims to enable students to analyse reproductive and sexual health issues, services and decisions taken, from a sociological, psychological, biological and physical perspective.

1  Explore recent advances and research evidence relating to sexual and reproductive health, analysing if appropriate, changes to anatomy and physiology and whether screening services are pertinent.
2  Critically analyse primary evidence, taking into account the physical and psychological needs of women and their partners.
3  Consider the role of the midwife in providing care and support for women and their families in relation to sexual and reproductive health.
4  Explore multi-professional working, to provide effective care and positive outcomes for women and their families.

Various teaching approaches related to the module content will be utilised e.g. lectures, seminars, self-directed learning, computer assisted learning.
