Educational aims of the programme

  • Emphasise the international outlook of the hotel sector to nurture respect for diversity and develop awareness of global challenges

This Master's Degree programme is studied full-time over one academic year, consisting of 180 credits at FHEQ level 7. All modules are semester based and worth 15 credits with the exception of project, practice based and dissertation modules.

Other information

Through taking this MSc programme students will gain an understanding of the global hotel industry, and an in-depth exploration of the strategic management approaches, and develop the knowledge, skills and insights required to take on leadership positions within the international hotel sector. Through developing critical thinking, analytical skills and techniques in operations and strategic management, the programme will support students to master the academic knowledge and professional skills required to compete on a global stage. Towards this end, the programme will develop students' understanding of national, international and multinational hotel chains, by integrating theory, practice and application of knowledge.

The MSc in Strategic Hotel Management, through the application of the Surrey Curriculum Framework, seeks to support the development of sought-after graduates who em body the following characteristics:
