Educational aims of the programme

  • To produce graduates with a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD) who are capable of continuing onto the next stage of training for entry into the legal profession or who are able to secure positions in industry, commerce or the public sector
  • To develop and deepen students¿ interest and understanding of Law, in its national and international, social, political and cultural context
  • To produce graduates with a sound grasp of the principles of Law across a wide range of legal topics with an ability to apply those principles to legal problem solving
  • To provide students with broad understanding of the way technology is changing the practice of law and to make students better equipped to thrive in a changing professional context
  • To introduce students to digital lawyering skills, concepts, theories and practices to make students more competitive in an increasingly technology-infused legal profession and business environment
  • To enable students to explain and critically engage with the way the law can and should regulate emerging technologies and technology-driven business models, together with their social and political consequences
  • To enable students to critically analyse and evaluate existing legal rules and institutions, while using normative, empirical and theoretical methods as appropriate to identify and argue for practical legal reforms aimed at overcoming the problems identified

Full-time

This Bachelor's Degree (Honours) programme is studied full-time over three academic years, consisting of 360 credits (120 credits at FHEQ levels 4, 5 and 6). All modules are semester based and worth 15 credits with the exception of project, practice based and dissertation modules.
Possible exit awards include:
- Bachelor's Degree (Ordinary) (300 credits)
- Diploma of Higher Education (240 credits)
- Certificate of Higher Education (120 credits)

Full-time with PTY

This Bachelor's Degree (Honours) programme is studied full-time over four academic years, consisting of 480 credits (120 credits at FHEQ levels 4, 5, 6 and the optional professional training year). All modules are semester based and worth 15 credits with the exception of project, practice based and dissertation modules.
Possible exit awards include:
- Bachelor's Degree (Ordinary) (300 credits)

Year 2 - FHEQ Level 5

Module Selection for Year 2 - FHEQ Level 5

Choose 2 from the optional 8 modules (one in semester 1 and the other in semester 2).

To complete the requirements of the LT Pathway you must complete a sufficient number of qualifying Pathway modules from the specified list of LT modules available at Level 5 and Level 6. These must be equal to at least 90 credits (15 of which will be a compulsory Pathway module in semester 1 of Level 6 and the remaining 75 credits will be qualifying Pathway optional modules from the specified list at either Level 5 or 6). In total, this is equal to six taught modules or five taught modules and the dissertation. The qualifying Pathway modules at Level 5 are:

- LAW2049 - Environmental Law in Action (optional)
- LAW2084 - Law and Economics (optional)
- LAW2087 - International Humanitarian Law (optional)

Year 3 - FHEQ Level 6

Module Selection for Year 3 - FHEQ Level 6

At Level 6, you must take 8 taught modules or 6 taught modules plus the dissertation. You will automatically be enrolled in Law & Technology (LAW3135) in semester 1 as this is a compulsory module for LT Pathway students. The remaining 7 modules (or 5 plus dissertation) at Level 6 are optional modules.

To complete the requirements of the LT pathway you must complete a sufficient number of qualifying Pathway modules from the specified list of LT modules available at Level 5 and Level 6. These must be equal to at least 90 credits (15 of which will be from the compulsory Level 6 module Law & Technology LAW3135 and the remaining 75 credits will be other qualifying Pathway options from the specified list at Level 5 or 6). In total, this is equal to 6 taught modules or 5 taught modules and the dissertation. The qualifying LT Pathway modules at Level 6 are:
