Educational aims of the programme
- To enable students to develop a sound knowledge and understanding of civil engineering principles and the ability to apply these for the benefit of society;
- To develop in students an independence of thought and a critical approach to evidence, theories and concepts;
- To equip students with a range of transferable skills and to encourage a commitment to continuing professional development
- To provide an accredited educational base facilitating progression to chartered engineer status;
- To produce engineering graduates well equipped for employment in industry, the professions and public service.
- Graduates from the programme are expected to be able to critically review, consolidate and extend a systematic and coherent body of knowledge within the area of civil engineering, utilising specialised skills across and area of study; critically evaluate new concepts and evidence from a range of sources; transfer and apply diagnostic and creative skills and exercise significant judgement in a range of situations; and accept accountability for determining and achieving personal and/or group outcomes.
- Students receiving the Diploma of Higher Education are expected to be able to generate ideas through the analysis of concepts at an abstract level, with a command of specialised skills and the formulation of responses to well-defined and abstract problems; analyse and evaluate information; exercise significant judgement across a broad range of functions; and accept responsibility for determining and achieving personal and/or group outcomes.
- Students receiving the Certificate of Higher Education are expected to be able to develop a rigorous approach to the acquisition of a broad knowledge base; employ a range of specialised skills; evaluate information, using it to plan and develop investigative strategies and to determine solutions to a variety of unpredictable problems; and operate in a range of varied and specific contexts, taking responsibility for the nature and quality of outputs.

- To develop individual, interpersonal and professional skills, relevant to the professional field of civil engineering.

This Bachelor's Degree (Honours) programme is studied full-time over three academic years, consisting of 360 credits (120 credits at FHEQ levels 4, 5 and 6). All modules are semester based and worth 15 credits with the exception of project, practice based and dissertation modules.
Possible exit awards include:
- Bachelor's Degree (Ordinary) (300 credits)
- Diploma of Higher Education (240 credits)
- Certificate of Higher Education (120 credits)
Full-time with PTY
This Bachelor's Degree (Honours) programme is studied full-time over four academic years, consisting of 480 credits (120 credits at FHEQ levels 4, 5, 6 and the optional professional training year). All modules are semester based and worth 15 credits with the exception of project, practice based and dissertation modules.
