Module Overview
The module provides the opportunity for students to propose and undertake a substantial piece of work in the field of their study, using skills and knowledge from across their undergraduate programme including PTY.
Students may choose one of the following options:
- A Business Plan
- A research dissertation based on either secondary data or desk research
In discussion with the module leader, students will be able to develop a proposal for their project. Learning and teaching will take place in person (seminars and supervision) and online (guided learning).

This module focuses on three areas:
- Developing, managing and leading a significant business project
- Applying different tools to evaluate project findings including research methods
- Personal commitment, resilience and resourcefulness to complete the applied project

Assessment Strategy
The assessment strategy is designed to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate skills and knowledge of managing and leading an applied business project independently and engaging with stakeholders as necessary. Student may choose from two options:
- A Business Plan
- A research dissertation based on either secondary data or desk research
Thus, the summative assessment for this module consists of:
- Individual Applied Project Proposal - The Proposal refers to learning outcome 1 and 2.
- Individual Applied Project Document - The applied project document refers to learning outcome 2, 3 and 4.
Formative assessment: Supervision and seminars will provide opportunities to receive formative feedback on progress, quality and effectiveness of the project.
Feedback:
- Formative feedback will be provided in person in class and online via the virtual learning environment.
- Summative feedback will be provided upon submission of each assessment component.
Module aims
- Consolidate learning from first two years of study.
- Support application of knowledge to either inform industry practice or contribute to academic literature in the field.
- Provide an opportunity to deep dive into a specific area of interest in a creative, systematic and methodological way.

Methods of Teaching / Learning
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to support the student in developing the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake a significant piece project. The teaching format includes interactive seminars to introduce a range of research methodology skills and issues and supervision sessions with their academic supervisor. Independent study is a strong focus of this module. The learning and teaching methods include: Experiential learning, Reflective learning, Group and individual discussions.
Indicated Lecture Hours (which may also include seminars, tutorials, workshops and other contact time) are approximate and may include in-class tests where one or more of these are an assessment on the module. In-class tests are scheduled/organised separately to taught content and will be published on to student personal timetables, where they apply to taken modules, as soon as they are finalised by central administration. This will usually be after the initial publication of the teaching timetable for the relevant semester.
