Educational aims of the programme

  • The compulsory modules provide students with a rigorous grounding in theory complemented by the applied quantitative and digital techniques necessary to undertake empirical investigations (to form balanced evaluations of practice) and specialise in frontier areas that suit their particular interest or future career needs.
  • To impart students with transferable skills such as leadership, problem-solving, communication and professionalism required to operate successfully using big data within increasingly complex and global operational environment of the modern corporations of any industry or to pursue further academic study contributing cutting-edge researched knowledge towards a PhD degree within the subject area.
  • To provide a high-quality education that is intellectually rigorous, culturally, and environmentally aware and attuned to the current aspects in the forever-fast-paced business analytics sector, that is relevant for management science research, problem solving and decision making.
  • To provide students with a basis for developing their own approach to learning and personal development through a combination of compulsory and optional modules, spanning across management, finance, marketing, and supply chain, that are united by a focus on dialogue between theory and practice in the area of business analytics.
  • To respond to the emergent needs of corporations and academia for professionals who are able to work with analytical tools to generate value from available information depots and take advantage of the vast amounts of data now provided by the modern Information Communication Technology and Enterprise Resource Planning systems, providing business-intelligence for effective decision-making.

This Master's Degree programme is studied full-time over one academic year, consisting of 180 credits at FHEQ level 7. All modules are semester based and worth 15 credits with the exception of project, practice based and dissertation modules.

The school/department of GIFT CITY INTERNATIONAL BRANCH CAMPUS / Business Management with Business Analytics BSc is committed to developing graduates with strengths in Employability, Digital Capabilities, Global and Cultural Capabilities, Sustainability, and Resourcefulness and Resilience. This programme is designed to allow students to develop knowledge, skills, and capabilities in the following areas:



Digital capabilities: Surrey students will be prepared for the digital future. Digital skills are embedded in modules and assessments across the programme. Business Analytics graduates will be introduced to relevant software for statistical analysis, simulation development, visualisation, data mining and data led decision making. Analytics students will develop relevant industry skills to innovate, communicate and problem solve using appropriate software, and to present solutions to general audiences. Students will also develop the skills and knowledge to live and work in the digital society experienced by businesses today and tomorrow.



Employability: Our programme provides graduates with the skills, capabilities, and methodological toolkit to become analytics practitioners who achieve rewarding and fulfilling employment and who can make a positive contribution to today¿s working world. Our teaching is research-led and industry-focused, which provides students with global perspectives on the challenges and opportunities in the discipline of Business Analytic. Our graduates are also equipped with the interpersonal, communication, and information dissemination skills required by modern businesses. Key modules will also teach students to reflect on, navigate, and manage a fulfilling and enduring career in analytics and beyond.



Global and cultural capabilities: Our campus, student body, and teaching team are truly international and bring an array of ideas, perspectives, experiences, backgrounds, and cultural knowledge to our programme. Our modules do not have a singular geographic focus and students are immersed in a broad range of knowledge and challenged to develop their cultural competencies by being open to alternative ideas and different understanding. In-class discussions, group tasks and assessments foster trust, and inclusivity and develop students' appreciation for alternative cultures, ways of working and worldviews.



Resourcefulness and Resilience: Building resourcefulness and resilience is a key element of this programme. Students will be given the freedom to act effectively, to use information and resources wisely and efficiently within a challenging yet supportive module structure. Student success is developed through both formative and summative assessment, with feedback focused on development and improvement. Classroom activities, laboratory and group work build skills around analytics, data management, problem solving, self-efficacy, while also encouraging determination, flexibility, and adaptability in the face of change and disruption.



Sustainability: The Programme aims to develop students' understanding, awareness, and capability to both predict the future of and develop innovative analytics solutions to deal with specific sustainability and ethically related areas such as socially responsible business practices and strategies. Ethical decision making and analytics methods are fundamental to modern businesses and students will develop the knowledge and capacity to become leaders for positive future change and sustainable business practice.
