Educational aims of the programme
- The programme combines the study of the major principles of, and scholarly approaches to, translation with opportunities for application and practice
- Enable students to perform relevant translation tasks in different contexts
- Enable students to reflect on their own practice, using scholarly and professional writing on relevant aspects of translation, transfer the acquired skills and knowledge to novel and unpredictable situations of translation
- Enable students to develop a broad understanding of current and future challenges of translation in different contexts
- Enable students to apply scholarly approaches to critically evaluate professional practice in the light of current and future requirements
- Instil in students the capacity for carrying out independent research in an area of translation

This Master's Degree programme is studied full-time over one academic year, consisting of 180 credits at FHEQ level 7. All modules are semester based and worth 15 credits with the exception of project, practice based and dissertation modules.
Possible exit awards include:
- Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits)
- Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits)
Part-time
This Master's Degree programme is studied part-time over two academic years, consisting of 180 credits at FHEQ level 7. All modules are semester based and worth 15 credits with the exception of project, practice based and dissertation modules.
Possible exit awards include:
- Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits)
- Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits)

Students must choose five optional modules (ideally two in Semester 1 and three in Semester 2).
Specialist Translation language options include Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Greek, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish paired with English. They require native or near-native competency in English and one of the above languages. Ab Initio Language for Translation Purposes include Norwegian, Portuguese and Russian paired with English. Semester 2 options in the Specialist Translation and the Ab Initio list must be taken in conjunction with their corresponding Semester 1 options.
